Christopher is approaching the 4th year of his PhD at Delft University of Technology in Hydraulic Engineering. He is a graduate of the IHE-Delft Institute for Water Education and the University of the West Indies with distinction and honors degrees. Christopher is skilled in numerical modelling and is familiar with widely-used tools such as Delft3D, SWAN, SWASH and XBeach. He is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) with the Project Management Institute (PMI).

His research interests include: building with nature; applied research towards disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation; numerical modelling; and overall sustainable development.

Mr. Lashley, who comes from Barbados, hopes to one day apply his knowledge to his home country and the wider Caribbean to ensure that development—especially along the coast—is done in a sustainable manner.

In shallow coastal environments, such as natural wetlands, long-period infragravity waves (periods of minutes) become significant with the potential to cause coastal flooding and erosion. My research aims to improve our understanding of the dynamics of these waves and their flood potential. In this way the impact of wetlands on flood risk can be accurately quantified.
